Chris Birkett is a music producer, sound engineer, musician, lyric writer and
composer.
His journey as an artist and his life are intimately connected and bear witness
to his vision of a better world to come.
His music productions and collaborations have sold more than one hundred
million records and earned him three awards for excellence in the music
business.
He was born in Aldershot, a grey, industrial town close to London.
Educated in the university of life on the streets, he dreamed of a better future...
At eight years of age, he built his first guitar from pieces of wood that he found in dustbins.
For Chris, the guitar became his first instrument of communication .
At fourteen, he formed his first group called « Friends of Fernberg » and
started playing concerts in London clubs. He had found his path.
At nineteen, his only possessions were a Gibson guitar, two T-shirts and a pair of jeans.
He had begun a nomadic life on the Streets of London.
However, his fortune was to change rapidly...
At twenty-one, he was working night shift in a gas station when he
experienced his first miracle. It was a cold winter night, in Peckham, in south
east London, a group called « Montana Red Dog » who had heard of Chris’s
reputation as an excellent guitarist came to ask him if he would come to
Germany the next day for an eighteen months tour.
He said « yes » to this unexpected invitation and from this moment, his life
took a new turn.
This crossroad in his life was the beginning of a new musical odyssey leading
him to collaborate with well known Memphis artists Rufus Thomas,
Ann Peebles, King Floyd and Jean Knight.
At twenty two, he returned to London to join the famous pop group « Love
Affair » who had a number one hit record « Everlasting Love ».
Two years later, he auditionned for a group called « Omaha Sheriff » who had
just signed a major contract with Tony Visconti’s Good Earth records.
Tony Produced David Bowie, the Moody Blues, Marc Bolan etc… He became
Chris’s mentor and introduced him to the world of music production, arranging
and sound engineering.
His path was made and many exciting musical encounters would follow.
Chris rapidly became a Producer in his own right.
From that point, he would go on from there to produce many albums.
In 1993, he left London for France and built a studio in an old château near
Bordeaux, south west France where he collaborated with many international
and world music artists.
In the autumn of 2006, he moved to Paris and opened a new studio where he
recorded this latest album « Freedom ».
