Actress, writer, songwriter and performer from France, Sofizel now lives in London and has been experimenting, for a few years with her solo performances, a different approach of entertaining her audience: a theatrical musical performance!
Known as “The Enchanted Child Of Rock” she stands between evil and beauty. Sofizel is the solo performer with enchanting vocals and electric bass guitar, who writes and interprets songs of truth, heart and soul...
Bored with the acting career she’s tried to set up in Paris, it’s only in 1999 that she grabs the bass guitar that’s been lying there for a few years, and that she decides to concentrate on music. In 2000, she comes up with her first song called “Always”,
written with the bass. Other songs follow with the same strange structure, introducing poly-rhythmic lines, time signature changes and inviting rock, blues, jazz and soul rhythms to embrace the melodic use she makes of the instrument: “Everyone is Beautiful”. She records her first song in studio in 2001 (“Cold Pleasure”) and finally gets on stage with enough of her own material in the end of
the summer 2003, while she’s also started writing with the guitar.
Acting is still an ingredient part of the show since she uses this skill for storytelling, creating a fantastic fairy tale world living in harmony with her usually haunting songs.
She’s played solo performances in many reputed venues of the UK Capital such as The 12 Bar Club, Glam-ou-rama at The Buffalo Bar, The Boogaloo, Nambucca, the famous Death Disco hosted by Alan McGee at The Notting Hill Arts Club, Gossips, L.S.E, The Foundry, The Others, Cherry Jam, The Tate Britain, the Hackney Empire Theatre and the Hard Rock Café London.
Her music sounds like cotton clouds carried by a soft meow breathe in an oxymoric universe. Some underwater or roughly distorted bass guitar accompanies some scary crow screams sometimes and the whole thing that’s been said so far is that
the performance is dazzlingly hypnotic...
“Requin Blanc” was released in October 2005 on the Blang compilation Fruit Machine (26 SEEDS FROM THE LONDON UNDERGROUND).
She’s belonged or participated to a few bands’ projects over the last years: Cooty Shot in 2002, The Gypsies (Federico Zig) in the beginning of 2005 (The Barfly, 93 Feet East, The Bull and Gate). La Peau Douce was a live show of down tempo – ambient - trip hop songs created to open a photographic exhibition called “De la Vie à la Mort” in Nice, France- 2005 by Pep Karsten. It featured a very floaty and dreamy cover of “La Vie en Rose”. PSYCAMORE FRUIT has been an on-going collaboration project since 2006 with a French musician called Zilba. Their music is a potpourri of electro – experimental – metal and pop sounds.
Sofizel has been in studio at Jungle Records with Sky Sunlight Saxon (The SEEDS) in November 2005 to record 2 tremendous songs "Who's next to go”,
"Christmas for the Animals" under the name of The Europe Seeds.
In the last couple years she focussed on the writing of her first novel in French: Et ce jour-là encore, le soleil brillait which is still in the process of pubishing and that treats about dreams, psychic powers and the subconscious mind. A spiritual journey in the mind of twenty-five years old rock ’n roll chick who wanders in Paris: a partly
autobiographical novel that awakes the child in ourselves, with a large touch of kiddy poetry, ready to lift us up to a new level of consciousness and that helps us to reach freedom through self-respect.
